The show is set when Charlie (Charlie Sheen) is suddenly interrupted by the arrival of his brother Alan (Jon Cryer) and his nephew Jake (Angus T. Jones) after being divorced by his wife Judith (Marin Hinkle) when they consider living with Charlie.
Charlie a bachelor in the show is sleeping with multiple women living a swinger lifestyle while Brother Alan struggles to keep women in his life. Rose (Melanie Lynskey) a partial love interest/stalker in the show tends to show up unexpectedly on Charlie’s porch to give her perspective of why Charlie should be with her and not other women which she is very classy, but corky in how she portrays herself.
In the show Jake is as funny as can. Jake is aware of what Uncle Charlie is doing with the women and he seems to be unaffected by it and considers it normal as everyday life which is ironic because its normally not ethical for a 10 year old boy to be exposed to it which gives it a comedic twist.
The show is centered on Sheen and Cryer caring for the nephew as he grows up with a mother and father who are separated. With Bertha (Conchata Ferrell) an unapologetic blue collared housemaid and Charlie and Alan’s narcissistic mother Evelyn (Holland Taylor) who also contributes to the growing of Jake.
In my opinion the show is ridiculously funny in the sense that a 10 year old boy living with two grown men and seeing an live through an unfiltered lens of reality and how it is considered to be very susceptible to different outlooks one being a monogamous relationship which turns out not always so fairy tale like and a swinger lifestyle where it has its drawbacks.
